The main objective of this project is the improvement of drinking water quality in our taps. This is achieved through the blending process of combining 50% ground water with 50% better quality desalinated water. An improvement in the quality of desalinated water is being achieved through the refurbishing and upgrading of the existing Reverse Osmosis Plant.
The project will improve water quality and capacity of existing plants by 35% through an improvement of ground water collection and water transfer network, and the replacement of unlined pipes causing discoloured water; it will reduce the chloride level in water and reduce power consumption.

Maltese citizens and households in general (75,000 households will benefit from higher quality drinking water).

How is the project progressing?
Following an extensive procurement exercise, WSC have now ordered all the necessary equipment and plant to enhance the water production and distribution infrastructure. Water Services Corporation have already received, inspected and certified some of this equipment, while other equipment is either still being manufactured or is currently being shipped to the islands.
The installation of the abovementioned equipment will be commissioned during 2007.
