Re-training & Re-skilling of workers for the Engineering Industry
What is this project about?
This consists of training courses designed to provide candidates with new and transferable skills relating to engineering disciplines including new engineering techniques, entrepreneurship and self-employment in a commercial environment.
The aim of the project is to improve the human resource base to enhance the competitiveness of the Maltese economy. It targets mature students who have been made redundant due to the restructuring of the sector. The project ensures that all candidates have an internationally recognized qualification by employers in the relevant industry.
Who will benefit?
Unemployed, women, youth, people with disabilities, people over 40’s, semi skilled/unskilled workers, single parents, people returning to the labour market.

How is the project progressing?
3 students graduated in CNC Machining in June 2006. Presently there are 44 students undergoing training in the Mechanical engineering sector, which includes CNC Machining; Panel Beating; Automatic Gearbox Service and Repair; and Motor Vehicle Service and Repair. These courses are aimed at mature students who are either about to embark on a new career or would like to reskill and retrain in one of these fields.
